Perrier-Jouët

Perrier-Jouët is a two-hundred-year-old house that values tradition, excellence and extravagance.

In 1811 Perrier Jouët was founded by Pierre-Nicolas Perrier and Adèle Jouët, his wife. The company was based in the heart of the Champagne region at No.24 on Epernay’s fabled ‘avenue de Champagne’.

Between 1840 and 1870 several parcels of Chardonnay vineyards from among the best ‘Grands Crus’ in the ‘Côte des Blancs’ were bought. In Cramant, the ‘Bourons-le-Roy’ and ‘Bourons-du-Midi’ parcels are considered some of the best in the entire Champagne region. Perrier Jouët owns 65 hectares of vineyards.

In 1858 Perrier-Jouët was among the first to stamp the year of the vintage on its corks.

In 1861 as Queen Victoria’s favourite Champagne, Perrier-Jouët received the royal warrant from the British royal family.

In 1880 Perrier-Jouët passed the million bottle mark in sales.

In 1888 at Christie’s wine auctions, Perrier-Jouët became the world’s most expensive and sought-after Champagne, fetching previously unheard of prices for its legendary 1874 vintage.

The first vintage of ‘Belle Epoque’, the ‘1964’, was launched in 1969 in Paris.

In 1970 Grace Kelly made Perrier-Jouët her favourite Champagne and allowed the company the privilege of sponsoring the famous ‘Rose Ball’ in Monaco.

In 1993 Hervé Deschamps became only the seventh cellar master in two centuries.

Perrier Jouët owns one of Champagne’s oldest wine collections, and is one of the few houses still to have a bottle of the famous 1825 vintage.
