The Fruits of Asolo with LETERRE (Prosecco Superiore)

8th June 2021

Leterre Dry Prosecco Asolo

What many people do not know is that there are many different styles of Prosecco of many different regions and at varying levels of quality.

Isn’t it exciting when we place a bottle of Prosecco in our shopping basket / trolley with the great anticipation of chilling, popping and pouring it later. No doubt we will have opted for the promotion at the end of the aisle, it is very much about cheap bubbles when it comes to Prosecco, especially compared to Champagne, though is this really all that Prosecco is… Cheap?

Prosecco is not just ‘one big thing‘ and instead we can easily divide this famous Italian sparkling wine into sections:

Tasting notes: “Wonderfully fruity and silky in style. Fresh yellow apples, green pears with an Alpine chalky freshness both in the aromas and flavours. At the 2020 Glass of Bubbly Awards, this won a Silver medal in the category of ‘Summer Days’. I personally rate this a gold medal on the fantastic fruity flavours it delivers as a Dry Prosecco example of Asolo.

Five Star Flat Bread

Five Star Flatbread

As mentioned above, this wine is an explosion of sweet fruit flavours, natural expression over a residual sugar taste. This fresh fruity style makes the wine ideal for lighter foods and especially those involving pasta, bread dishes. For the pairing suggestion, I researched some foods from the Italian region of Brindisi and saw a fair few examples of bread with ham/cheese/olives and more so I made up the following:

Five Start Flatbread – Home baked flatbread with blue cheese, cherry tomatoes, prosciutto, prawn, olives.

LETERRE Asolo paired with Five Start Flat Bread – Tasting notes: “The flatbread is somewhat on the sweeter savoury style (thanks to the cherry tomatoes) so the fruity burst of the LETERRE explodes the sweetness levels further and adds a refreshing acidic fruitiness to the pairing reducing the oily/greasy texture. An easy to enjoy combination.
