It is certainly a wow factor when you get to visit Champagne Château de Boursault and that means both to the Champagne itself and to the tiny matter of the Château de Boursault that is a simply stunning property that has idyllic surroundings.

Château de Boursault is a neo-Renaissance château that is located in Boursault which lays just West of Epernay in Marne, France. This impressive property was built between 1843 and 1850 by the famous Cliquote widow Madame Clicquot Ponsardin of the Champagne brand Veuve Clicquot. Today the property now belongs to Champagne Château de Boursault that have vineyards surrounding the property – I was very pleased to receive a kind invitation from Alexandre Fringhian, the current Managing Director, to tour the property, its gardens and have a look down in the cellars.

It is as if you have been taken back centuries when you enter the building, many original features exist and when you walk through to the back of the property you get to admire the magnificent views of the region. There is much renovation work required yet within the building and much investment is needed, but you can picture what a magnificent place it once was and the fine Champagnes that must have been enjoyed within. Château de Boursault today is very much work in progress in most parts, but stunning features can still be admired.

It was great to tour the cellars of Château de Boursault, plenty of space to store many 100,000’s of bottles as the brand expands in awareness internationally.

A leisurely stroll back to the tasting room away from the Château was very welcomed and Alexandre was pleased to introduce me to the brand with a tasting of a selection of their wines which was a first time experience for me. I particularly enjoyed their blanc de noirs which expressed plum, dark cherries and refreshing citrus / green apples.

From my point of view this appears to be a Champagne label in transition and once it rolls out both its Champagne and the added attraction of the Château de Boursault then it will be making a big impact as for many it will conjure up the atmosphere that many associate with this wine region, ie fine history, wines and stunning luxury with property.
