Masters in Wine at Plumpton College
19th May 2014
A brand new MSc programme in Viticulture and Oenology, the first in the UK, has been formally validated by the University of Brighton. Supported by the expert contribution of Dr Aude Vernhet (Professor of Oenology in Montpellier), the validation panel responded very positively to the proposal from Plumpton College for the new course. In particular, the panel commended the College’s high level of investment in its Wine Centre, and the enthusiasm and strong research culture of the course team.
This will be the first MSc in Viticulture & Oenology in the UK, and will specialise in cool-climate wine production, climate change, terroir, and sparkling wine. Dr Matteo Marangon, formerly a Senior Researcher at the Australian Wine Institute in Adelaide, has been specially appointed to lead this project. The College is actively recruiting on an international scale for the first cohort, due to enrol in September 2014.
The MSc students will greatly benefit from the College’s commercial vineyard and winery facilities and by the recent establishment of the UK Wine Research Centre at Plumpton College, opened in March 2014 by the Duchess of Cornwall.
Des Lambert, Principal of Plumpton College, said: “We are really excited about this new development. With its strong staff team and excellent facilities, Plumpton College is set to become an international centre of excellence for wine training, education and research”.
