There’s something very romantic about a home cooked meal, enjoyed over candlelight with a glass of bubbly. Whether or not cooking is your strong point, you can always win over your date with a good bottle of sparkling wine.

Here are some tips on how to impress during your meal!

Set the mood
Prepare before your date arrives with a well-laid out table, including some candles and of course, a pair of Champagne flutes.

Get a bottle of bubbly
A bottle of sparkling wine just helps make it extra special. Champagne is the classic option, which you can find from £10-£20 upwards. There’s always the option of Prosecco, which is a lighter fruity bubbly or impress with something different. Another option which could really intrigue and impress your date is to opt for something a little different. English sparkling wine is very high quality, considered by many on par with Champagne and may offer your date a new experience.

Start with a glass of sparkling wine
Offer your date a glass straight away to get the date going and set the mood. It could also give you a talking point.

Keep it Simple
Make sure you have a recipe you know how to cook – it doesn’t have to be fancy. Something like steak and chips or salmon are classic options.

Avoid messy or too spicy food
No one wants to be slurping spaghetti or wiping their noses during their first date!

Pink Fizz & Chocolate
Making a simple 3-course meal is the best option, but having a sweet dessert will seal the deal! Anything involving chocolate is going to go down well. If you can, pair it with a glass of pink fizz which pairs beautifully thanks to the fruity flavours.

Relax!
At the end of the day, the most important part is yourself. Relax and enjoy it – and keep the bubbly flowing!
