Champagne Afternoon Tea

Afternoon tea has been a British tradition for over 150 years. It was first introduced in England by Anna, the seventh Duchess of Bedford, in the year 1840. Evening meals were generally served around 8-9pm and The Duchess would become hungry around four o’clock in the afternoon so she would ask for a tray of tea, some bread and butter and cake be brought to her room.

During the 1880’s afternoon tea became a fashionable social event for the upper-class and society women.

Today you can add a little sparkle to the quintessentially English afternoon tea by also enjoying a glass of Champagne with the variety of sweet and savory treats served in many hotels and tea rooms across the country.
