Chapel Down
17th January 2014
Chapel Down is one of the UK’s longest established wineries. The Chapel Down Winery is home to England’s largest wine producer.
The vineyard at Tenterden is the home of Chapel Down. The vineyard has 23 acres of vines. There is also a second vineyard in Aylesford, Kent which has 112 acres. Half of their wine production is sparkling wine.
Chapel Down sparkling wines spend up to 3 years on lees, “sur lie” as part of their house style. After the desired period of maturation the bottles are hand transferred to their modern Gyro pallets for riddling. The riddled wines are disgorged on the bottling line, packed and labelled.
