Badagoni – Georgian Sparkling Wine

Before we discover who Badagoni is, we need to pinpoint where Georgia is, located in the intersection between Europe and Asia, Georgia is located just above Turkey and just below Russia, it’s interesting to know that it is a former Soviet Republic and it is well known for its ancient wine-growing region of Kakheti and funny enough, that is where the Badagoni story begins.

Badagoni’s story starts in the east of Georgia in 2006, they have two different wineries, one located in the wine region of Kakheti, in the village of Zemo Khodasheni, and the second located in Sagarejo region in the village of Manavi, with both wineries combined, they have 400 hectares of land.

Their second winery, the one located in the Sagarejo region, is the winery that has given Badagoni an outstanding achievement, Badagoni is the most advanced winery in the whole of Eastern Europe, that is huge, they are very proud of the technology that allowed them to achieve that, but they are also very passionate about remaining true to Georgian traditions, when it comes to making wine.

This is understandable when you might very well be making wine in its birthplace, archeological evidence suggests that winemaking could have begun in Georgia as long as 8 millenniums ago.

Georgia has the oldest record of wine in the whole world.

Badagoni matures their wine in French oak barrels, which are stored in a wine cellar clad surrounded by Georgian bricks dating back over 300 years, so although they have the most advanced machinery in making wine, they also like to do things old school.Badagoni produces 6,000 bottles of still and sparkling wine in just 1 hour, they say ‘there does not exist any order that we cannot meet‘, care to challenge them on that?

It is said that Georgia has over 400 indigenous vine species and over 300 foreign, this means Georgia has nearly one-sixth of the world’s grape varieties.

As the most advanced winery in the whole of Eastern Europe, its no wonder that they have been awarded lots of awards
